New roads to pave and traffic control changes

On Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 6:30 PM the Logan County Board of Commissioners will hold a special meeting with District 1 residents to discuss emergency services at the Seward Road Baptist Church, 4801 W Seward Rd, Guthrie, OK 73044. Recent events in one Emergency Medical Service (EMS) district have brought the ambulance coverage areas of the three EMS Districts currently operating in the county under review by the board of commissioners. We can also field questions concerning the Logan County/Mercy Hospital’s decision to close the surgery center and plans to provide that medical service in the future to the residents of our county. Logan County District 1 citizens are welcome to attend and encouraged to participate in the District medical services public forum. http://www.sewardroad.com/apps/location/

We have some good news in that our save to pave program now has around $200K, which can fund a mile, so we are now ready to select and begin preparation of our first mile. On Tuesday December 8, 2015, at 6:30 PM we will hold our District 1 “Save to Pave” town hall meeting at the Chisolm Springs Event Center 7479 W. Simpson Rd. http://chisholm.thespringsevents.com/
At our last town hall meeting last March we made a commitment to save all of our new sales tax funds to pave or overlay one full mile of roadway a year. Our goal for this next meeting is to make good on that commitment, to present the current funds, personnel, and equipment available to the district for this purpose; and then review the several candidate projects submitted for public review and discussion. We will also be discussing the status of other road paving projects in the district. Vote for your choice of which mile to repave on our web site.

At our last meeting the Logan County Board of commissioners we passed resolutions on the following proposed traffic control changes: At Penn & Charter Oak to implement a 4 way stop. This change will add a stop for the traffic on Penn at this intersection. The following county road speed reductions have been approved: 1) Broadway from Waterloo to Forest Hills Road reduce speed limit to 45 mph. 2) Kelley from Waterloo to Charter Oak reduce speed to 40 mph. Our road teams will be out this week putting up the new signs.

Deep Patch Milling

Atlas Paving has completed the overlay job on Charter Oak from Kelley Ave East to Broadway. Atlas has completed the final shoulder slope and sod work around the culvert areas and is now finished. This is a great road surface now that should serve our community for many years to come. Our complements to Atlas on the quality job and finishing touches on this last phase.

On the Coltrane Road project we continue make progress with ODOT and ACOG this month to update our application for federal funding to finish the project. This last week the ACOG technical committee approved our change application. This is good news and puts us on the fast track for increased federal funding to complete this project in the FY 2017-2018 construction years. The total remaining cost for the construction phases is approximately 6 million dollars, 9 million total. We have one third of the total for matching funding requirement which is well above the one fifth (20%) match required by the ACOG administered federal highway funds. This is the definition of a “shovel ready” project and stands a great chance of 100% funding.
